Laboratory Refrigeration

Laboratory Refrigeration In any laboratory, refrigeration is an essential requirement for preserving precious samples, reagents, and experiments. A diverse selection of refrigerators and freezers are available, whether you may need to store samples at 4°C, -20°C, -80°C or -150°C. In general, laboratory refrigerators cool at a range of 2°C to 8°C. These cold storage appliances come in many sizes, some with glass doors, and some with integrated freezers. Special freezers such as the -80°C ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers, come in either “upright” or “chest” designs, and come in varying sizes. Meanwhile, cryogenic freezers generally refer to a cooling temperature of -150°C. Many come with features such as a monitoring and alarm system, and some are sealed with vacuum instead of the conventional polyurethane foam. Accordingly, higher-end and lower-temperature freezers will cost more than general-purpose refrigerators or freezers. While lab refrigerators are generally priced in the low $1,000's, the price of ULT and cryogenic freezers can reach greater than $30,000.
