Alkaline phosphatase assay kits are available from several suppliers to determine the enzymatic activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), a dephosphorylating metalloenzyme. ALP catalyzes the hydrolysis of organic phosphate esters and is most optimally in alkaline pH. Alkaline phosphatase assays act on substrates such as p-nitrophenyl phosphate (pNPP), which turn yellow when dephosphorylated by ALP.
